Description

Mask orders are expected to dispatch within 1-2 WEEKS of purchase date!

Recognising a need for masks in the community, and to preserve medical grade PPE for health workers, we made over 350 masks just for our customers and, after some tweaks, added them to our core range! The result is a 2 ply 100% organic cotton mask, crafted from a thick, naturally moisture repelling rib outer and light jersey inner. We feel it's the right balance of coverage and breathability for extended wear for civilian/ community protection.

Important: this is NOT a medical grade mask. We designed it based on research from the University of Cambridge (more on that here). It's reusable, washable at high temperatures and compostable at end of life. A note on returns, unless deemed faulty, dust masks are not eligible for returns.

Product Story

Make

Description

Made in-house at the A.BCH studio. The A.BCH Dust Mask is cut from the negative space leftover from our A.14 skivvies. We cut, sew and trim them, using tonal stitching and matching, adjustable ties. Each is fitted with an adjustable wire nose piece for shaping to your face. We've deliberately eliminated seams in the front of the mask for optimal comfort. Removing seams is also more effective for keeping bacteria from seeping in through the mask.

Fabric

Description

100% certified organic cotton 265gsm, 1x1 rib layer (outer) and superfine jersey layer (inner). The fibre is grown, processed and spun in India, is Fair Trade, ACO and Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified at every stage from processing to finishing to meet strict environmental, toxicity and social standards. The yarns are dyed and knitted in one of the last remaining knitting factories in Australia, located just outside of Melbourne.

Thread

Description

100% Cradle 2 Cradle Gold certified, Tencel Lyocell sewing thread. This plant-based, biodegradable thread is strong and colour fast, with a supply chain to write home about. The Tencel fibres are created from eucalyptus tree pulp in Austria, then spun and dyed in Switzerland using low impact dyes.

Wire

Description

100% aluminium flat nose wire with rounded edges. Pliable for shaping around the nose, but please note this wire will not create an airtight seal, rather it will help the mask stay up on the nose bridge for long periods of wear. These wires are produced by machine and are recyclable with your aluminium foil at the end of the mask life.

100% organic cotton, printed with Oeko Tex 100 certified inks. The yarns are sourced in India from GOTS certified mills and are woven at our supplier-owned mill into tape. They are then whitened according to GOTS standards using oxygen based whiteners and digitally printed.

Packaging

Compost

Our default packaging for local orders, home-compostable satchels have the lowest environmental impact when composted locally. Please don't throw this into your general waste bin, instead, after re-use, compost at home or find other solutions here. You can contact us immediately after placing your order to request recyclable packing instead.

Recycled

For extra fragile goods, or international orders, we use 100% post-consumer waste recycled and RECYCLABLE satchels, boxes and tissue paper. After re-use, these can go into your curb-side paper recycling bin.

Care

Laundering

Organic fibres need just a little more TLC than conventional ones. But these masks are built for a hot wash (which is needed for killing harmful bacteria, when present). Machine wash in a delicates bag at 60 degrees and hang to dry. We'll also send a detailed digital wear and care guide when you buy this dust mask.

Repairs

We stand by our garments + offer complimentary repairs for all A.BCH pieces. Our free repairs are for general wear and tear, all we ask is that you cover the cost of delivery or drop off to our Melbourne studio. Re-making or alterations can also be requested + will be individually quoted based on the time required.

End of Life

Recycling

To recycle this garment, send it back to us for store credit. We'll even cover shipping! We'll transform it into brand new yarns through our recycling program (so circular, darling).

Compost

If returning is unlikely (you're busy with a climate rally or living off the grid), this mask is compostable at home. After a long life of use, repair and re-use, simply cut out the wire (you can add this to any golf-size or bigger ball of aluminium foil for curb-side recycling) then cut up the masks into smaller pieces before placing it in your home composting system.
