Our 2 ply 100% organic cotton mask is crafted from a thick, rib outer and light jersey inner. We feel it's the right balance of coverage and breathability for extended wear for civilian/ community protection. Ties comfortably around the head, taking pressure off the ears and finished with a bendable wire nose.
Important: this is NOT a medical grade mask. We designed it based on research from the University of Cambridge (more on that here). It's reusable, washable at high temperatures and compostable at end of life. A note on returns, unless deemed faulty, dust masks are not eligible for returns.

Made in-house at the A.BCH studio. The A.BCH Dust Mask is cut from the negative space leftover from our A.14 skivvies. We cut, sew and trim them, using tonal stitching and matching, adjustable ties. Each is fitted with an adjustable wire nose for shaping to your face. We've deliberately eliminated seams in the front of the mask for optimal comfort. Removing seams is also more effective for keeping bacteria from seeping in through the mask.

Our masks are made from the offcut material left over from our skivvy production, a 100% certified organic cotton 265gsm 1x1 rib layer (outer) and a superfine jersey layer (outer) from the same supply chain. The fibre is grown, processed and spun in India and is ACO and Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified at every stage from processing to finishing to meet strict environmental, toxicity and social standards. Spun yarns are sent to Australia where they are knitted into rib and jersey fabrics by ABMT Textiles, one of our preferred local knitting mills. The fabrics are dyed locally with GOTS approved low impact dyes.

100% Cradle 2 Cradle Gold certified, Tencel Lyocell sewing thread. This plant-based, biodegradable thread is strong and colour fast, with a supply chain to write home about. The Tencel fibres are created from eucalyptus tree pulp in Austria, then spun and dyed in Switzerland using low impact dyes.

100% aluminium flat nose wire with rounded edges. Pliable for shaping around the nose, but please note this wire will not create an airtight seal, rather it will help the mask stay up on the nose bridge for long periods of wear. These wires are produced by machine and are recyclable with your aluminium foil at the end of the mask life.

100% organic cotton, printed with Oeko Tex 100 certified inks. The yarns are sourced in India from GOTS certified mills and are woven at our supplier-owned mill into tape. They are then whitened according to GOTS standards using oxygen based whiteners and digitally printed.

Our default packaging for local orders, home-compostable satchels have the lowest environmental impact when composted locally. Please don't throw this into your general waste bin, instead, after re-use, compost at home or find other solutions here. You can contact us immediately after placing your order to request recyclable packing instead.
For extra fragile goods, or international orders, we use 100% post-consumer waste recycled and RECYCLABLE satchels, boxes and tissue paper. After re-use, these can go into your curb-side paper recycling bin.
These masks are built for a hot wash (which is needed for killing harmful bacteria). Flatten the wire to avoid over bending in the wash (this will weaken the wire). Hand wash in very hot water and your usual eco-detergent or use a laundry bar, alternatively, machine wash in a delicates bag and hang to dry. We'll also send a detailed digital wear and care guide when you buy this dust mask.
This mask is made to be composted! After a long life of use, simply cut out the wire (you can add this to any golf-size or bigger ball of aluminium foil for curb-side recycling) then cut up the masks into smaller pieces before placing it in your home composting system or garden soil.
