Our approach to Care is all about increasing the lifespan of our clothes. We design each piece for longevity with materials fit for purpose, but we need your help to keep them in use for as long as possible. You can do this by following our care instructions and guides, employing good laundering habits, repairing when needed and storing pieces properly. Discover more care tips below.
Organic fibres need just a little more TLC than conventional ones
General Care
Wear More, Wash Less
Instead of resorting straight to the laundry basket after each wear, consider getting more wears out of your garment. Washing and drying a load every two days creates around 440kg of CO2e each year. Over washing also sends clothing to the grave faster, so unless it's been up close and personal (WYKYK), try hanging and airing out your clothes between washes in a well ventilated space. Things like overcoats and jackets may never need to be washed!
Sort and Optimize
A seemingly simple, but highly effective tip is to create an accessible and organised place (think Marie Kondo) for each of your garments to live. We recommend folding or hanging your garments in their assigned "home" immediately after washing or wearing them. This small act of respect can help change how you feel about caring for your clothes, not to mention you'll have easier access to wear and rotate them.
Repair Before you Re-wear
Attend to repairs as soon as possible. We can't stress this enough. When you notice a small hole, rip or busted seam, don't ignore it – doing small repairs can extend the life of the garment before the problem becomes too difficult or worse, totally irreparable.
Tend to Stains Right Away
Kinda like repairs, if you spill colourful food, oils or anything for that matter, on your clothes then do your best to deal with it immediately. It can feel inconvenient, but tending to the stain right away increases the likelihood of removing it completely - a more convenient task than replacing it entirely. We recommend this magical laundry bar to have on hand for such spills.
Cold Wash, Warm Heart
Organic fibres may be more delicate than conventional ones, so they'll need a little more TLC. Cold water is gentler on your clothes AND saves energy and carbon emissions.
Skip the Dryer
Avoid more than half the carbon emissions omitted in a garment's entire lifecycle by drying on the line instead of in the dryer. Simple. Not to mention, your clothes will stay in better shape, the less heat they're exposed to.
Not-so-white Whites
For yellowing marks, stubborn collar stains or other un-removable marks on white 100% cellulose based garments, try a tepid oxygen bleach soeak in a clean bucket or sink to bring them back to life. Always follow the instructions on the packaging and wear gloves! Our advice is to start small. Try a 10 min soak and if stains still remain, increase the time, continually checking for results and removing the clothes for a good rinse and washing machine cycle as soon as the stains disappear.
Oil Marks Be-Gone
Oil stains wont come out with a normal wash cycle, or even with a laundry bar. Cover the oil/grease mark with talcum powder (your garment should be dry) and let it sit for a few hours or even overnight. Scratch off the powder and shake off any excess before treating with warm water and laundry bar. Repeat the process if needed.
