Product Story

Make

Description

The A.39 is made to order, in-house at the A.BCH circular factory. Our entire production and HQ operations rely on 100% renewable wind power and we carbon offset our energy use. Your fabric is first laid and cut with minimal waste, pieces are then sewn by our team of skilled machinists. Each garment is trimmed for excess threads and pressed before being sent to you. Our operations are accredited by Ethical Clothing Australia.

Fabric

Description

A mid weight, 100% GOTS certified organic linen, grown in France by a group of farmers who have dedicated the last 10 years to perfecting the art of organic linen farming. Scutching is performed locally, fibres are then sent to Hungary to be spun into yarn. Finally, they are sent to Belgium, where they’re woven in a C02 neutral mill. The rich colour is achieved through strict, GOTS approved low impact dyes. Our Belgian supplier has been creating linen since 1864 and is recognised by The Masters of Linen.

Thread

Description

100% Tencel Lyocell. Tencel Lyocell is made from eucalyptus tree pulp, which is FSC and Canopy verified. The fibre is created by Lenzing in Austria and is certified carbon neutral. It is then spun and dyed in Portugal. The thread is strong, durable and colourfast and is biodegradable in land and marine environments.

Pocket Lining

Description

20% Recycled Cotton + 80% Cotton plain weave taffeta. The virgin cotton is grown in the USA, while the recycled content comes out of factory waste from Guatemala's denim mills. The two cottons are blended, spun and woven – they are completely undyed. We purchase and import the fabric directly from the mill in Guatemala who have been dedicated to creating beautiful undyed and recycled cottons since 1956.

Fusing

Description

100% Oeko tex certified, brushed organic cotton - notably formaldehyde free and affixed with a resin. While the manufacturing facility is GOTS accredited and the fusing is acceptable for use in GOTS certified garments, the actual fusing itself is not GOTS certified due to the resin component. Removal of fusing before recycling or composting is recommended due to the unknown degradability of the resin. Made in Germany, stocked and shipped from the manufacturer’s factory in Hong Kong.

Packaging

Compost

Our default packaging for local orders, home-compostable satchels have the lowest environmental impact when composted locally. Please don't throw this into your general waste bin, instead, after re-use, compost at home or find other solutions here. You can contact us immediately after placing your order to request recyclable packing instead.

Recycled

For extra fragile goods, or international orders, we use 100% post-consumer waste recycled and RECYCLABLE satchels, boxes and tissue paper. After re-use, these can go into your curb-side paper recycling bin.

Care

Laundering

Organic fibres need just a little more TLC than conventional ones. Machine wash on COLD, use a delicates bag for best results and hang to dry. We'll also send a detailed digital care guide when you buy this garment.

Repairs

We stand by our garments + offer complimentary repairs for all A.BCH pieces. Our free repairs are for general wear and tear, all we ask is that you cover the cost of delivery or drop off to our Melbourne studio. Re-making or alterations can also be requested + will be individually quoted based on the time required.

End of Life

Recirculate

Help extend the life of the A.39 by sending or dropping it back to us for store credit – we'll even cover the shipping. Depending on its condition, we'll repair & re-sell it (as second hand), remake it into something or if it's no longer useful, we'll transform it into brand new yarns through our Recycling Program (so circular, darling).

Recycle

With some decommissioning, the A.39 was specifically designed for easy mechanical or cellulose chemical recycling and this is the preferred afterlife pathway. Send or drop it back to us for store credit, we'll even cover the shipping. Once received and assessed, the garment is washed and prepared for mechanical recycling. The yarns we create from this process will become feedstock for future A.BCH styles.

Biodegrade

The A.39 requires minor decommissioning (including removal of the front waistband and button hole facing) before being ready to biodegrade. Also, while the cellulose buttons are compostable, we would opt for re-use unless they are broken. We highly recommend sending this piece back to us so we can appropriately recycle it - however as a last resort, this garment can be self-decommissioned, cut into smaller pieces and buried in your garden soil. The A.39 should decompose in 8-12 weeks, depending on conditions
