Product Story

Make

Description

The A.38 is made in-house at the A.BCH circular factory. Our entire production and HQ operations rely on 100% renewable wind power and we carbon offset our energy use. The fabric is first laid and cut with minimal waste, pieces are then constructed by our team of skilled machinists. Each garment is trimmed for excess threads and pressed before being sent to you. Our operations are accredited by Ethical Clothing Australia.

Fabric

Description

80% Recycled Cotton + 20% Cotton 11oz denim in light indigo. The virgin cotton is grown in the USA, while the recycled content comes out of industrial waste from Guatemala's cotton spinning mills and factory offcuts. The two cottons are blended, spun and woven to achieve the desired colour profile. This means the fabric is technically un-dyed in its new life and colour is achieved by expert blending of the recycled content to create a beautiful light indigo. We purchase and import the fabric directly from the mill in Guatemala who have been dedicated to creating the most beautiful recycled content denims since 1956.

Label

Description

Our labels are woven un-dyed and black OCS organic cotton, grown in the Xinjiang province in China. The labels were created after we searched high and low for a supplier who would be willing to weave organic cotton into labels for us, and we finally found one thanks to our wholesale partner. This is a positive step, however we are working to have these labels GOTS certified in the future as well.

Packaging

Compost

Our default packaging for local orders, home-compostable satchels have the lowest environmental impact when composted locally. Please don't throw this into your general waste bin, instead, after re-use, compost at home or find other solutions here. You can contact us immediately after placing your order to request recyclable packing instead.

Recycled

For extra fragile goods, or international orders, we use 100% post-consumer waste recycled and RECYCLABLE satchels, boxes and tissue paper. After re-use, these can go into your curb-side paper recycling bin.

Reusable

Now you can choose reusable (and returnable) packaging and when you send it back the to us, we'll automatically give you a $10 A.BCH store credit, making this by far the cheapest shipping option at $2. At this time, reusable packaging is only available in Australia.

Care

Laundering

Recycled fibres need just a little more TLC than conventional ones. Machine wash on COLD with like-colours and hang to dry. Avoid the washing machine by airing your coat out between wears. We'll also send a detailed digital care guide when you buy this garment.

Repairs

We stand by our garments + offer complimentary repairs for all A.BCH pieces. Our free repairs are for general wear and tear, all we ask is that you cover the cost of delivery or drop off to our Melbourne studio. Re-making or alterations can also be requested + will be individually quoted based on the time required.

End of Life

Recirculate

Help extend the life of the A.38 by sending or dropping it back to us for store credit – we'll even cover the shipping. Depending on its condition, we'll repair & re-sell it (as second hand), remake it into something or if it's no longer useful, we'll transform it into brand new yarns through our Recycling Program (so circular, darling).

Recycle

The A.38 was specifically designed for easy mechanical or cellulose chemical recycling and this is the preferred afterlife pathway. Send or drop it back to us for store credit, we'll even cover the shipping. Once received and assessed, the garment is washed and prepared for mechanical recycling. The yarns we create from this process will become feedstock for future A.BCH styles.

Biodegrade

If returning is unlikely (you're busy with a climate rally or living off the grid), the A.38 is also biodegradable as a last resort. After a long life of use, repair and re-use, you can remove the buttons if they're still useful (if broken or cracked they can biodegrade too!) and cut the garment into smaller pieces and bury in your garden soil. The A.38 should decompose in 8-12 weeks, depending on conditions.
